Lecture Series
The Lecture Series has been a part of the Education for Sustainable Living Program since its inception in 2004. Student leaders invite speakers on all topics of sustainability and student empowerment to speak, inspire, educate, and stimulate discussion among students. The quarter-long class delves into a multitude of issues including green business, organic and slow foods movements, environmental justice, urban development and globalization, and consumer power, and each speaker incorporates their own inspiring achievements and unique visions. The Lecture Series enables the seed of knowledge and passion to grow inside students just starting out in the world of sustainability, while nurturing and furthering the knowledge of students already deeply engaged in sustainable actions and thought.
“I will carry with me some of the values and views
that I gained from the class throughout my life.
I consider myself to be jaded, but the best part of this class
is the overwhelming sense of hope it gave me”
-Past Lecture Series Student
The speakers' combination of knowledge coupled with experience brings new views and thoughts to the lively students discussion that follows each lecture. ESLP is a completely student-led, student-oriented class, and students are therefore encouraged to speak up even with whatever experiences and thoughts they have to add. Everyone is able to contribute to discussion of these empowering, thought-provoking issues in sustainability, each bringing their own levels of diversity, energy, and inspiration.
